over backwards", would be coming soon, we can finally
reveal the track list and announce a cd release party.
1. nightingale
2. radio city
3. friends i wish i knew
4. b-movie queen
5. house lights

7. know
8. comfort
9. a safer hiding place
10. stars of mendocino
we will be taking part in a main
man records 4-way cd release party with jack
brag, frankenstein
3000 and acid, plus special guests the cucumbers and ivan julain
(richard hell & the voidoids/matthew sweet) at the
brighton bar in long branch, nj. we'll have copies of "falling
over backwards" available that night, but the actual release
date will be in march (within a few days of the anniversary of starting
the album proper, 3/18/06).
IT
WAS 20 YEARS AGO TODAY...
14:03 est saturday september 24, '11
nirvana's
landmark album, "nevermind", was released on this
day in 1991. in early 2007 we were asked to contribute to a
"re-imagining" of that album, all of the songs from
it covered by young, upcoming artists. we chose "drain
you" and got to work on making it our own. the result was
included on main
man records' "oh
well... whatever... a tribute to nirvana's nevermind".
now, on the 20th anniversary of nevermind's release,
we have remixed, remastered and re-released our version of "drain
you" as a free download. to the right is artwork for the
download, if you wanna put it on your portable music player.
WE
GOT INVITED TO A PARTY!
08:59 est saturday august 20, '11
...a cd release party for "take
it or leave it - a tribute to the runaways". the 2-disc collection
includes contributions from the dandy warhols, shonen knife, the donnas,
david johansen (new york dolls) and many more. we recorded "rock
& roll", originally written and performed by the velvet underground,
then covered by mitch ryder who later inspired the runaways to record
a version. ok, it's a stretch, but it was a big part of the runaways'
live show. the party was on august 12th at the brighton bar in long
branch, nj. it was our first live appearance in over 4 years but after
just 3 rehearsals everything fell into place. our set was short but
sweet and of course included "rock & roll" as well as
"nightingale", "house lights" (both from the upcoming
cd "falling over backwards"... more on that below) and "a
better place" from our 1st cd "see
you in may". we'd like to thank everyone over at main
man records for including us in both the tribute and the party.
speaking
of "falling over backwards": we've been talking about
our new cd for years now. we've gotten some momentum going from
time to time to get it done but something always seems to distract
us and the project stalls. well, we've once again been forging
ahead with the mixes and for the first time we're all really
happy with the results. after rehearsing and playing a live
show in the past few weeks there's been a new fire lit under
us and we're hoping to complete the cd and have it out this
fall. in the meantime (and as proof that we're serious this
time), here's a mix of "stars of mendocino" from the
sessions. it's a slightly different (and shorter) version than
what will appear on the cd. it's just charlie on vocals and
acoustic, michael on acoustic, brian on 12 string and clint
on percussion. that little arrow on the right of the player
is to download the track. it's a big, high quality file you
can burn to disc or load onto your media player. feel free to
share it with your friends and family. it's a mellow little
ditty that shouldn't offend anyone. here's some artwork for
it, in case you're into that sort of thing.
SETBACKS
AND ANOTHER TRIBUTE
13:19 est wednesday march 23, '11
personal issues have kept us from finishing "falling over backwards",
so that election day release obviously didn't happen. we did, however,
find the time to record a song for an upcoming tribute from main
man records, the subject of which we are forbidden from disclosing
at this time. the other bands that are involved are internationally
known so we're incredibly excited to be a part of it. we just finished
mixing last night and we're told mastering is scheduled for march
30th, with a tentative release date in early june. the recording experience
has lit a fire under our tails and work will resume on "falling
over backwards". thanks for your patience.
BIG
THINGS HAPPENING ON ELECTION DAY 2010
14:48 est thursday august 12, '10
we've started mixing the 10 songs for "falling over backwards",
which is a good thing since main
man records has announced the release date as november 2nd, aka
election day here in the u.s.a. after much consideration, we've decided
to keep this project completely d.i.y. when all is said and done we
will have written, recorded, mixed and created the artwork for the
cd.
keep
visiting cuz you never know when we may post a song for a day or two
for you to check out.
we're
also working on some gigs. check back soon.
IF
AXL CAN GET HIS SHIT TOGETHER...
00:08 est thursday april 15, '10
so we've been out of touch for a while, huh? we apologize if you've
visted the site from time to time to find nothing new. but if you're
reading this then that must mean something's up, right? right!
we
kinda went our separate ways a couple years ago... quite literally.
but borders and tolls can't keep the mighty digger phelps from forging
ahead. main
man records has been holding a number in their catalog for us
for about 5 years now and we're tired of seeing that gaping hole in
the discography every time we visit their offices. they're releasing
a downloadable compilation for free on april 17, 2010 in honor of
record store
day (the irony is not lost on us at all). it's got one song from
every title in their catalog so we were expected to contribute a song
from "falling over backwards"... so we did. "a safer
hiding place" is track 9 (the catalog number for "falling
over backwards" is MMR009) and there's a video of the song up
at youtube
promoting the compilation. you can sign up now here
and receive a link to the download on saturday.
with
all of that said, we have a day's worth of recording to do on a few
songs and we'll be done. then we mix and then, as one main man executive
put it, we can "get that puppy into the hands of the people".
we've
also committed to recording a cover of the cars' "all mixed up"
for a tribute cd coming out on main
man records.

REMEMBER
US?
12:35 est thursday april 10, '08
"falling over backwards", the
long-awaited follow-up to our debut cd, "see you in may"
is now in the mixing stages, with a scheduled release this summer
on main
man records. there are a lot of exciting
things happening over at main man and we're honored to be part of
the family.
"kiss
this - the main man records tribute to kiss" is now available
on itunes
and other online retail outlets, and our contribution, a cover of
"come on and love me", is included. we've heard that our
track is one of the more poplular from the compilation, which is cool.
visit your favorite mp3 site, search our name and you'll find it.
TRIBUTES
OUT THE WHAZOO
23:39 est wednesday october 3, '07
the rolling stones tribute, "get
yer wah-wahs out!", is now available at the main
man records website. our version
of "loving cup" is track 2.
charlie
& clint appear on a tribute to the first rush album called "lush",
performing "take a friend" with mike
spank on bass & guitar. it, too, is available now at the main
man records website.
WHERE
HAVE YOU BEEN?
23:42 est tuesday april 17, '07
yes, it's been over a year since the
last update. we don't have any excuses; it's just the way it is. since
then we've continued working on "falling over backwards"
with 3 songs mixed, 3 more recorded and another 4 waiting in the wings.
we've also found the time to lend our expertise to some tribute albums:
"this
ain't spinal tap" is a tribute to the soundtrack to the classic
film, completely recreated by bands from all over the place. we were
able to secure "gimme some money", probably the best song
of the bunch. there were only 150 numbered copies, and they may all
be gone by now. check the main
man records website for details and availablity.
"oh
well... whatever..." is another album tribute; this time recreating
nirvana's "nevermind". we picked "drain you".
it was just released today through the main man records website. it's
a limited edition of 100 copies, so get your's now! here.
a cd release party is scheduled for june 30 at buddies
in sayreville, nj. yes, we'll be playing.
lastly,
we're in the midst of recording a version of the rolling stones' "loving
cup" for a... you guessed it... rolling stones tribute cd, out
on main man records in july.
main
man records has been very good to us and have agreed to release
our upcoming cd, whenever it's ready.

ALBUM NEWS
17:41 est tuesday february 21, '06
welcome
to our redesigned website. we hope you're able to find your way around
easily. please bear with us while we move all our crap from over there
to over here. for now we've just got a few pages up and running, including
"shows", "biography", "songlist" and
"releases" (plus a special treat in the "media"
section). we apologize for this inconvenience, but we promise to make
it up to you by making all of our past recordings available in the
mp3 section... except "see you in may", which is still for
sale at cdbaby.com.
within the next week all of the tracks from "see you in may"
will be available as digital downloads at most of the popular download
sites (itunes, emusic, napster, rhapsody, yahoo music, etc).
rehearsals
continue for our sophomore cd, tentatively titled "falling over
backwards". we hope to start work on recording in the spring
for a fall/winter release. we know we promised to have it out early
in the new year, but unforeseen circumstances held us back from those
plans. we hope you'll forgive us.
if
you would like, please join our email
list and we will contact you when we'll be appearing live... or
when our new cd will be available... or when one of us does something
interesting (all of which are very few and far between).
